'RHYO Intermediate' is for people who have been playing their instrument for about two years and have typically been playing with one of our Area Bands for one year. An ability to read some musical notation is essential. However, help and training is given to develop this skill.
RHYO Intermediate is somewhat different to traditional orchestras in that it offers members training in many different musical styles and settings, including some performances that require players to learn music by ear and improvise. Music played includes classical, film, popular, Latin American and other world music styles.
In recent years, the orchestra has:
Given formal concerts at the Albert Hall, St Peter's Church, Nottingham and St Margaret’s Church, Aspley. They have helped to lead Christmas celebrations in the City and as part of Nottingham 'Light Nights' festival. They perform in many Schools around the City in their annual Primary schools tour.
Most recently, 'RHYO Intermediate' has performed successfully at The Nottingham Governor's Conference, held at the National College for Teaching and Leadership, Nottingham University and at their Spring Concert at St Barnabas Cathedral, Nottingham
If you have been playing for about two years and/or been a member of one of our Area Bands, are able to commit to regular rehearsals and want to develop your skills in a variety of musical styles while making new friends get in touch to apply for a place.
Saturday mornings, 0900-1100, Nottingham Academy site on Greenwood Road (from September)

If you attend a school in the city, please speak to your teacher about Music School Intermediate Orchestra and ask for a recommend card.
If you attend a school in the county, please come to either our Enrolment or one of our Open Days. We may ask you to play for us in a very relaxed and informal setting, (nothing to be worried about!) and we will take it from there.
