Please read these guidelines carefully and make sure that
EVERYONE in your band completes an entry form. The definitive list of rules is included below.

This event is only open to bands/artists/acts that have a majority of members who live, study or work in Nottingham. So you may live outside the city but as long as you attend a school, college or university within the city or work within the city you may still enter.

There are 2 categories for different age groups: 13-15 and 16-18.

Age 13-15 Requirements:

• THE MAJORITY OF THE BAND MUST BE WITHIN THE AGE CATEGORY 13-15 on the day of the final (27th February) to be able to enter this category. If the MAJORITY of the band is within the 13-15 age range, we can accommodate members who are 11-16.

• Each artist or band will be asked to perform three songs. One MUST be an original, the others can be covers or originals. Your original song must be inspired by the theme ‘Nottingham, Future City’ to allow automatic entry into the Young Creative Awards competition. More details can be found on the website www.nottinghammusichub.org.uk.

• All music must be live (no backing tracks).

• Each band will have 15 minutes performance time in the final.

Age 16-18 Requirements:

• All band members MUST BE BETWEEN 16-18 on the day of the final (6th March). If the MAJORITY of the band is within the 16-18 age range, we can accommodate members who are 15-19.

• Each artist or band will be asked to perform three songs. Two MUST be originals, the third song can be a cover or an original. This has been requested to fulfil eligibility criteria to enter the Future Sound of Nottingham competition and the Young Creative Awards. One of the original songs must be inspired by the theme ‘Nottingham, Future City’ to allow automatic entry into the Young Creative Awards competition. More details can be found on the website www.nottinghammusichub.org.uk.

• All music must be live (no backing tracks).

• Each band will have 15 minutes performance time in the final.

The following band equipment will be provided:

You must provide your own instruments. We will provide Drum Kit, Mics, 2 guitar amps & 1 bass amp. Please only bring guitars, keyboards, FX and any other instruments you need. Drummers may ONLY bring snare, bass drum pedal and cymbals if preferred, but some will be available to use. Due to space and time restrictions, you will not be allowed to use your own full drum kit or amplifiers (if you have more than 2 guitarists, please state this clearly in your application).

Once you have entered you’ll need to attend the following.

1) The Heats,
At NCN Clarendon, Pelham Ave, Nottingham NG5 1AL on February 21st 2017 between 6pm-10pm (To Be Confirmed)

You’ll be assessed on musical ability, performance and response to following our Code of Conduct. Agreement will need to be signed on the day. One of the original songs must be your ‘Nottingham, Future City’ inspired song, which will be recorded live to allow automatic entry into the Young Creative Awards competition.

Code of Conduct

All entrants applying to this competition automatically agree to the following and in addition to abide by the terms and conditions of the Young Creative Awards (http://www.youngcreativeawards.org/terms-conditions). Any entrants that are seen to not abide by these rules will be disqualified immediately with automatic ejection to them and their band/artist/act. This is non-negotiable.

 There will be an independent panel of judges who will decide which bands make it through The Heats and how prizes will be distributed. The judges’ decision is final.

 This event will be an ‘offence’ free zone, any swearing/offensive behavior on stage, off stage, towards other bands, towards each other and towards members of staff is not acceptable (this also includes ‘offensive behavior’ from any people that you bring to the event). Please make sure none of your songs will cause offence by language used, subject matter and its performance. Any inappropriate/offensive clothing is not permitted, this includes offensive writing or images or content displayed on them.
Anyone who breaks these rules, including the people that you bring to the event, will be disqualified along with the associated band they are in or supporting.

 Please note that NCN Clarendon, Nottingham Academy, The Maze, and Rock City (including all grounds) are no smoking venues. Any participants in possession of tobacco, alcohol or drugs will be disqualified immediately. Any participants leaving the site without permission will also be disqualified.

 All entrants must be 11-19 years old. See above for the specific age requirements for each category.

College Street and NCN Clarendon technical staff may record the sound for the event. However, due to copyright laws, copies of cover songs will only be available for students that wish to use the recording towards a qualification such as GCSE/BTec Music. In this case, we can only accept requests directly from schools, so please ask your teacher to get in touch.
Bands that include young people who have won previous Bands in the Sand or have won the Nusic Future Session in previous Noise from the Next Generation competitions cannot enter. The only exception to this is that previous winners of the 'junior' category may subsequently enter the 'senior' category.

The deadline for entries is 9.00 am Friday 10th February 2017.
